Help, however, isn't always the easiest thing to give, and it can be even more difficult to accept....

Love, loss, and forgiveness weave inextricably into this human tale of friendship and hope.

Ripples Through Time (Audible Audio Edition) Lincoln Cole Don Foote LC Publishing Books

Calvin is an elderly man who is struggling with the loss of his wife Mellie. Since she passed all he could think about was ending his life and joining her. He is then visited by his neighboring friend, Edward who was contacted by his daughter Bethany out of worry and concern for her father’s well-being. Throughout the book remnants of Calvin’s past come into play as he remembers his life with Mellie. The story of his life unfolds as you learn more about his past and his intricate relationships. The love that Edward has for his wife is beautifully written and you could feel his loss. Edwards’s unapologetic sense of humor reminded me of my father-in-law.

I found the use of multiple narrators truly deepened the story. It made it authentic and bold. I truly enjoyed this book!

Ripples Through Time (Audible Audio Edition) Lincoln Cole Don Foote LC Publishing Books Reviews

Lincoln Cole really knocked it out of the park with this one. Absolutely loved this story! Ripples Through Time follows an eighty-four year old man named Calvin as he reminisces and discusses his life story of the past fifty years with his wife and kids. Calvin's wife Emily has recently passed and he's really struggling with the grief, thinking about ending it all. Parts of the story are told through memories of the 1950's - present day and parts of the story Calvin struggles to remember at all. Lincoln Cole did a fantastic job of keeping the reader's attention by shuffling the narration at times from first person to a traditional narrator, and even at times, letting different characters take over whole chapters allowing them to give their point of view of how the story unfolded. The flow is steady and engaging and the writing was consistent and easy to follow from the first word to the last. Lincoln wrote a winner here.
The book starts before the story begins with a quote from Anne Lammott, (one of the all time great contemporary writers) “Not forgiving is like drinking rat poison and then waiting for the rat to die.” This has piqued my interest.

The story opens with Calvin and 83-year-old arthritic man who is grieving over the loss of his wife, Mellie, and has had enough of living. He wants to join her. The doorbell rings and enters a lifelong friend, Edward White, who just received a phone call from Bethany, Calvin’s daughter. She is worried about her father’s state.

As the initial scene progresses reminders of Mellie enter into Calvin’s thoughts and the reader is taken in for this man. When something arises about Calvin not going to apologize this creates a tension and glue to the read, an air of conflict, and I am reminded of the Lammott quote. When The way this is written is so well done that I’m not put off buy the subject matter, instead I want to find out what’s behind that initial quote, is there more to happen to be forgiven, and who has suffered by not doing so.

Cole does not disappoint as he moves the storyline along with great descriptions and metaphors (“Edward rubs his hands on his jeans the way a politician does before shaking hands” etc.). He does not dwell on the struggle with end of life issues and loss of a spouse but brings the story alive, into the living albeit the past through his children, through himself, Edward, and poignantly Mellie, etc. This is an extremely well crafted sensitively authentic tale, that delves into what it is to be human and the human condition the secrets, lies, reconciliations, and in the end choice and forgiveness. I certainly am coming away believing in the forgiveness.

Reminiscent of Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the read.
I can't say enough wonderful things about this story. First off, Lincoln Cole is an extremely talented writer. The story begins with Calvin Greenwood, an old worn man whose wife has just past away. It starts in the present day and over the course of the book dives into different moments of his life and the lives of his family and friends. The character development is excellent and I felt as if I knew these people and was a part of their story.

The emotional ties in the story gripped my heart and had me coming back for more. I enjoyed the different viewpoints of Calvin, Emily, Edward, Bethany and other characters. Everyone has their story and I was amazed how well the author drew me in to their lives and allowed me to witness their inner demons, along with their fears and hopes. The story as a whole was spell-binding and thought provoking and I highly recommend this book.
A wonderful, well-crafted story about love, loss, and longing. The story consists of numerous memories of lives intertwined from just after WWII to the present day. A man struggling to deal with the passing of his wife of many years thinks to end his own life feeling that he is no longer needed. The story of his life, that of his wife, and his children play out in each chapter written from the first person point of view. We view first hand the choices they make and how those choices affect those around them. The overwhelming theme I found was that even with the best of intentions we seem too often to hurt the ones we love. The hard part is to forgive the hurt and move on without letting our relationships suffer. This is without a doubt one of the best books I have read in some time.
Calvin is alone for the first time in a long time. He is trying to deal with the passing of his wife. He is struggling with this greatly when his friend Edward comes to his aid. Edward hopes that talking to him will let him know that he will be fine. He knows Calvin is hurting and he hopes to help him before time runs out.

I could tell from the beginning that this was going to be a heart-wrenching tale of loss. It was that, but it was also a story full of hope and friendship. Losing someone so close to you is hard, and Calvin is faced with such a difficult time. It had me by the heartstrings. This book had the memories of a life past. The pain, mistakes, and the hope for a better future make this book a hard to put down read. By the ending, I was in tears. This was truly a sad and yet touching book. I enjoyed it.
